Baro and Jalali fortress
At the end of Alavi Street, two tall and sturdy walls covered with straw clay, known as the symbol of the Seljuk era, stand. As an impregnable fortress, it has been a barrier against enemy invasions and has repeatedly saved the city’s residents from pillage and plunder.
Next to this fortress, the remnants of Jalali Castle catch the eye, attributed to Jalal al-Din Malik Shah Seljuk, which was once the administrative center of Kashan. Between the fortress and the castle, two domed structures, known as “yakhchal” or ice house, have historically met the needs of the locals during the scorching summers of the desert.
