Eram Garden Shiraz
Eram is a historic Persian garden in the city of Shiraz, comprising several historical buildings and a botanical garden. The exact date of the construction and the initial founder of Eram Garden in Shiraz are not accurately known. However, descriptions of it can be found in travelogues dating back to the 10th and 11th centuries AH (Islamic calendar). This garden flourished during the Seljuk and Al-e Injoo periods. Although little information is available about it, except for one of Hafez’s ghazals indicating that the Al-e Injoo dynasty had control over the garden.
Some historians believe that the construction of this garden dates back to the Seljuk period, as during that time, Atabak Gara’eh, the ruler of Fars, undertook the construction of Takht Garden and several other gardens in Shiraz, and it is possible that this garden was also built upon his request. Later, this garden was confiscated and became state property, and it was handed over to Shiraz University. This garden has a very diverse plant collection, with plants from various parts of the world planted in it, to the extent that the garden has become a showcase of various flowers and plants. Currently, this garden is under the ownership of Shiraz University; its botany garden is managed by the Faculty of Agriculture, and the garden building is under the jurisdiction of the Faculty of Law. On July 26, 2011, in the 35th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, Eram Garden Shiraz, along with eight other Iranian gardens, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
