Fandoghlu Forest

Fandoghlu Forest is one of the most renowned forests in Iran, located in Ardabil Province. It is celebrated for its fields filled with colorful flowers, fruit trees, ski slopes, cable cars, hot springs, waterfalls, diverse wildlife, and pleasant, cool climate. The forest is named after the hazelnut tree, which is more abundant here than other species. Various fruit trees, such as hazelnut, wild apple, plum, medlar, quince, raspberry, and strawberry, grow in this forest. Situated between the provinces of Gilan and Ardabil, Fandoghlu Forest lies between the cities of Ardabil and Astara. The Astara-Ardabil road and the Heyran Pass are the only connecting routes between these two provinces in this area, and every tourist traveling this road passes by Fandoghlu Forest. The best time to visit this beautiful forest is in spring and summer, especially when the chamomile flowers enhance the region’s beauty.
Other attractions in Ardabil Province include Lake Neor, the Heyran Pass (the route from Astara to Ardabil, known as one of Iran’s most scenic roads), the therapeutic hot springs of Sarein, and the Asalem to Khalkhal road, which is one of the most beautiful roads in Iran.
