Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque
Isfahan’s historic and renowned mosque. What stands out most about this mosque is its circular dome adorned with infinitely beautiful designs, arguably unparalleled in the world. The architecture of this mosque is incomparable in its kind worldwide. However, undoubtedly, the most beautiful part of Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque in Isfahan is its dome. A circular dome inspired by Iranian architecture adorned with magnificent Islamic designs. In addition, an infinite array of intricately patterned tiles adorns both the interior and exterior of the dome, multiplying its wonders manyfold. Another marvel of the architecture of this dome is its changing color throughout the day, turning earthy in the morning, pink at noon, and grayish at sunset. What has made this mosque so unique and exceptional is, first, the absence of minarets. In an era when minarets were one of the essential signs of a mosque’s existence, the absence of minarets in Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque raises questions. However, the reason for this is that this mosque served as a place of worship for the courtiers of the time, and therefore, no minaret was built on it to prevent the common people from entering.
