The Azadi Tower
The Azadi Tower, located in Azadi Square (formerly Shahyad Square), is considered a masterpiece of architecture and design. Beneath the tower, there are amphitheater halls, and you can easily take an elevator to the top of the tower to enjoy a beautiful view of Tehran. According to research, the Azadi Tower, known as the Shahyad Tower before the 1979 Revolution, is the main and one of the most iconic symbols of Tehran. Almost everywhere in the world, Iran is recognized by this symbol. It was built in 1970 by the Iranian architect Hossein Amanat. The Azadi Tower, known as the symbol of “Modern Iran,” was designed and built to commemorate the 2,500th anniversary of the Persian Empire in the middle of one of the main squares in western Tehran, named Shahyad Square and Azadi Square today. The architecture of the tower is a combination of Achaemenid, Sassanid, and Islamic architecture. In the lower precinct, there are several exhibition halls, art galleries, libraries, and museums.
