The historical water structures of Shushtar

The historical water structures of Shushtar, known as the Shushtar Hydraulic System, constitute one of the largest industrial complexes before the Industrial Revolution, which UNESCO has termed a “masterpiece of creativity and genius.” The Shushtar water structures are a continuous ensemble of bridges, dams, mills, waterfalls, canals, and massive tunnels working in harmony with each other, dating back to the Sassanian era. They were constructed to harness the power of water as a driving force for industrial mills.
