The Jameh Mosque of Fahraj
The Jameh Mosque of Fahraj is one of the ancient mosques located in the village of Fahraj in Yazd Province, with a history of over 5000 years, dating back to the earliest Islamic periods. The structure of this mosque follows the Khorasani style. While the mosque was built in the first half of the 1st century AH (After Hijra), its original construction dates back to the Sasanian period, which was converted into a mosque during the time of the Caliphate of Omar with the advent of Islam. This mosque is the only mosque in the Islamic world with such a long history that its structure has remained unchanged from its construction to the present day. The Jameh Mosque of Fahraj is of the hypostyle type and lacks an ivan. Although there are differences of opinion among archaeologists, it appears that the Jameh Mosque of Fahraj is the oldest mosque in Iran.
