The Mirror Hall

The Mirror Hall is one of the rooms of the Golestan Palace in Tehran, located in the western part of the Golestan complex, above the entrance door of the main building, and next to the Salam Hall. This hall, along with the Salam Hall, was constructed in 1253 solar year by Sanai al-Molk, and its decoration continued until 1261 solar year when it was completed. Prior to the construction of the Mirror Hall, there was a wooden-columned mansion in that location, built in 1232 solar year by Mohammad Taqi Khan, the architect, under the supervision of Haj Ali Khan Hajeb al-Dawlah, replacing the Diamond Mansion in the royal complex. The Mirror Hall features exquisite mirror work. The architecture and design of this building were done by Ali Mohammad Khan, known as Sanai al-Molk, while the construction supervision was carried out by Mirza Yahya Khan Mo’tamed al-Molk, the Minister of Construction. The hall is most famous for the paintings by Kamal ol-Molk, a renowned Iranian painter. Kamal ol-Molk spent five years working on this masterpiece, depicting Naser al-Din Shah in the hall.
