The Niavaran Palace
The Niavaran Palace is situated in the northeastern part of the Niavaran Garden. It was one of the last royal residences in Iran and counted among Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi’s summer retreats. During the Qajar era, on the orders of Fath-Ali Shah Qajar, a garden was constructed in a pleasant and temperate area outside Tehran, then known as “Niavaran,” to serve as the king’s residence during the hot summer months. Subsequently, both Qajar and Pahlavi kings built numerous structures in this garden until, in 1958, by the order of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, the Fath-Ali Shah Qajar Palace was demolished, and the present-day Niavaran Palace was constructed. Initially, the Niavaran Palace was designed as a dedicated building for hosting foreign guests. However, upon completion, it became the permanent residence for the Mohammad Reza Pahlavi family until their permanent exile from the country.
