The Shams al-Amareh Palace

The Shams al-Amareh Palace stands as a testament to Naser al-Din Shah’s keen interest in European-style tall buildings and their ornate decorations, combined with the authentic and beautiful Iranian architectural style, leading to the construction of Tehran’s first skyscraper, with a height of over 35 meters. The Qajar Shah was drawn to the idea of constructing a tall building similar to those in Europe solely by seeing images of European structures, even before his trip to Europe. Although apparently, the existence of the Ali Qapu Palace in Isfahan did not influence the Shah’s decision. Therefore, he instructed his treasurer, Dowlatshah, who was also responsible for architectural affairs at the court, to build a tall building for viewing Tehran and its surroundings. Thus, the construction of the Shams al-Amareh Palace, designed by master architect Ali Mohammad Kashi, commenced. Shams al-Amareh is one of the most magnificent landmarks in Tehran, located in the eastern part of the beautiful and historic Golestan Palace complex.
