The village of Kandovan

The village of Kandovan is located 18 kilometers from the city of Osku and 62 kilometers from the city of Tabriz. It is one of the famous natural attractions of East Azerbaijan province and Iran, known worldwide for being the only inhabited rocky village. While there are two other rocky villages in the world, one in Cappadocia, Turkey, and the other in Dakota, USA, they are uninhabited.

Kandovan village has a history of 3,000 years in the county of Osku. Its cone-shaped and pyramidal houses are nestled within the mountains and are entirely natural formations, without any human intervention. The village consists of 117 families and residential homes built inside these cone and pyramid-shaped formations. An interesting aspect of Kandovan village is that its houses resemble beehives, and natural honey is also famous as a souvenir. The entirely traditional houses, the cheerful and warm-hearted people, delicious and diverse souvenirs, as well as the fresh and mineral-rich water, all contribute to the charm of this village for tourists from around the world. Kandovan village was registered in the National Heritage List of Iran on May 5, 1997. The best time to visit Kandovan is during the summer, as it is a highland village with very cold weather in winter and pleasant temperatures in summer. There are 5-star hotels and various accommodations available to accommodate travelers in this village.

The souvenirs of Kandovan village include honey, dairy products, dried fruits, handicrafts, and summer fruits.
