Zarbaft
Zarbaft is an Iranian art and has been present since the time of the Achaemenids. Zarbaft is woven in cities such as Kashan, Isfahan, and Yazd, and in the city of Kashan, more attention has been paid to creating beautiful and memorable works of this type.

The Zarbaft machine is operated by two people, with one person responsible for feeding and combing the yarn, which is placed where the fabric is woven, and the other responsible for feeding the pattern on top of the machine.

Two types of threads are used in Zarbaft carpet weaving, one of which is silk and the other is silk with a gold or silver coating. Threads coated with gold or silver contain about eight percent of these precious metals and the rest is silk. These threads are prepared by a master blacksmith.

The weaving process of this product is as follows: first, a pattern is given to the machine, and then the person responsible for weaving, with a tool called a “Maku” (a tool that moves the weft between the warp threads) and inside it, a tube (a tool on which silk threads coated with gold or silver are wrapped around it) passes it through the silk threads and strikes it with another tool called “Daftin” (a tool in which lead is poured and is responsible for firmly compacting the weft and warp threads), and then gives the next pattern to the machine, and this process is repeated.

The characteristic of this type of handicraft can be referred to the number of warp and weft threads and the type of yarn and warp used. The number of threads in this machine reaches five thousand, and the yarn of this machine is made of silk coated with gold or silver, and the warp of this machine is also made of pure silk.
